Drew Barrymore - American actress, producer and businesswoman.

Drew Barrymore is an American actress, producer, director, author, television host and businesswoman. From child star to multi-talented woman, she has forged an inspiring career in many fields and an image as a timeless icon with films that have become classics, such as "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial", "Scream", "Ever After: A Cinderella Story", "Charlie's Angels" and "Music and Lyrics".

Born into a famous family of film artists, she was quickly thrown into the deep end, landing her first role at the age of 6 in the legendary film "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial", for which she received the Young Artist Award for Best Young Actress in a Supporting Role in 1983. She went on to play dozens of roles throughout the 80s and 90s. These included her appearance in the famous opening scene of the film "Scream", and her landmark role in the historical drama based on the Cinderella fairy tale "Ever After: A Cinderella Story", for which she won a Kids' Choice Award, a Saturn Award and a Blockbuster Entertainment Award for Best Actress.

Unfortunately, her life and career have not been without obstacles. She speaks openly about the drug problems she faced as a teenager, and how she managed to turn her life around. Taking her health and career in hand, she came back stronger than ever and set up her own production company, Flower Films. She mainly produced entertaining films, such as "50 First Dates", "He’s Just Not That Into You" and "Charlie’s Angels". The latter is one of her biggest successes and one of her most iconic roles.

In 2009, she took her first steps as a director with the film "Bliss" and got a taste for it. She then spent the next decade mainly behind the camera, producing several series ("Charlie's Angels", "Knife Fight", "Rattled") and films ("Happy Camp", "Animal", "How to Be Single", "Freak Show").

After a few less active years, she made a neat return to the screen in 2017, in the critically adored series "Santa Clarita Diet" (2017-2019). In 2020, she launched her TV talk show "The Drew Barrymore Show", which she hosts and produces. The show, which is also available in podcast format on Spotify, features a wide range of humanist and lifestyle topics, celebrity guests and field pieces. She notably won a Webby Award for Outstanding Contribution in 2022 and an MTV Movie & TV Award for Best Host in 2023.

In 2021, she announced that she would be putting her acting career on indefinite hold, and took advantage of this break to diversify her activities. She wrote a cookbook in collaboration with chef Pilar Valdes, "Rebel Homemaker", which became a New York Times bestseller. That same year, she launched her own quarterly lifestyle magazine, "Drew Magazine".

Beyond the film and television industry, Drew Barrymore has also been involved with a number of charities for many years. In 2007, she was named ambassador against hunger for the UN World Food Programme, to which she donated one million dollars.

She also supports the lgbtqia+ community, and spoke out about her bisexuality in 2003, in an interview for Contactmusic.com. "Do I like women sexually? Yeah, I do. Totally. I have always considered myself bisexual. I love a woman's body. I think a woman and a woman together are beautiful, just as a man and a woman together are beautiful. Being with a woman is like exploring your own body, but through someone else."

Also a businesswoman, she launched her women's fashion line in 2017, "Dear Drew", in collaboration with Amazon. She also launched "Beautiful", her lifestyle brand with products designed to "make life more beautiful through cooking".

A keen photographer, Drew Barrymore has also taken photos for the "They Shoot New York" magazine series, and appeared on the cover. She hopes one day to exhibit her photos in a gallery, and said in 2010: "I've been carrying a Pentax around with me for ten years. I've taken thousands of photos. My friends, my travels, my parties... everything is on film. I'm finally in the process of archiving them. My dream? To exhibit in a gallery. (© Elle.fr)
